Alan Law
Stocksbridge Town Council nominated Trustee
Born in 1946 at Barnsley Hospital, I grew up in Wath upon Dearne in a mining family, later moving to the King & Miller and then living in Deepcar. I began my career in 1963 at G R Stein Refractories, progressing from laboratory work to Works Superintendent by 1980. After the plant closed, I spent two years as Plant Superintendent at Dyson Refractories, followed by 13 years at Sheffield Chamber of Commerce as Senior Training Manager. I then worked for 13 years at Stocksbridge Royal Mail Delivery Office, finishing as Deputy Manager.
Alongside my professional career, I served as a Stocksbridge Town Councillor and Town Mayor three times, and as a Sheffield City Councillor for 30 years, including Chair of Planning and Joint Chair of Licensing. I was Lord Mayor of Sheffield in 2010/11 and served for 20 years as a Senior Magistrate. In retirement, I’ve supported the Steel Valley Project Committee, STEP, and Stocksbridge TARA.
